Experience
Mallnitz - Your personal paradise in the mountains
Nestled in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park, Mallnitz enchants visitors anew in every season. Here, every moment becomes a precious experience – whether enjoying your first coffee with a view of the mountain peaks or watching the sunset after a long day of hiking.
As the cradle of alpinism – the Ankogel was first climbed in 1762 – our region is one of the most beautiful natural hiking areas in the Alps. Reaching altitudes of up to 3,000 meters, you'll find a mountain experience to suit every taste: leisurely hut-to-hut hikes on 180 km of well-marked trails, challenging high-alpine mountaineering for ambitious climbers, skiing, snowboarding, and freeriding fun on over 100 km of slopes in top ski resorts like the Ankogel and the Mölltal Glacier – and in winter, more than 40 km of cross-country ski trails as well as tranquil snowshoe hikes away from the slopes.
Whether you're looking for an active holiday or pure relaxation, Mallnitz is the ideal starting point for countless experiences – and everyone can find their own personal paradise here. To help you get excited even before your arrival, we've compiled the region's most beautiful highlights for you.

Skiing
Ankogel
The traditional Ankogel ski area has become one of Austria's best-kept freeride secrets. High above the mountaineering village of Mallnitz, the "Pearl of the National Park", skiers and snowboarders can enjoy spectacular powder slopes sparkling in the winter sun.
Experience Carinthia's longest snow-sure ski run, wide-open powder fields, varied freeride terrain, and breathtaking mountain scenery in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
Mölltal Glacier
The Mölltal Glacier is Carinthia's only glacier ski resort and offers excellent snow conditions throughout much of the year.
Take the Glacier Express and the Eissee Cable Car comfortably to the Eissee Panorama Restaurant, located right in the middle of this spectacular glacier ski area.
Whether you relax on the sunny terrace while enjoying regional cuisine or take the chairlift to the summit at 3,122 metres, a visit to the Mölltal Glacier is always a highlight of your holiday.
Our Tip
Depending on snow conditions, skiing at the Mölltal Glacier is possible until June and starts again from October, making it one of the longest ski seasons in the Alps.

Ski tours
Ski tourers will find four diverse ski touring areas in Mallnitz: Tauerntal, Ankogel, Dösental, and Häusleralm. The wide selection of tours allows you to choose the perfect route depending on snow conditions, fitness level, and experience.
The Ankogel group is particularly appealing: tours lead up to the Mallnitzer Tauern, a historic Alpine pass, and offer impressive views into the neighboring Salzburg region. A popular challenge is the Kleine Ankogel – short, steep, and impressive, starting at the mountain station.
For beginners and recreational ski tourers, the Häusleralm offers ideal conditions in safe, manageable terrain.

Grander Water
The knowledge concerning the (healing) powers contained in water is ancient! This is proved by innumerable myths and stories from ancient cultures. Johann Grander - "inventor" of the eponymous water - recognized more than 30 years ago how important it is to treat nature and the element of water with respect. His reasoning was based on the fact that the condition of water is crucial for our well-being and the conservation of the entire ecosystem.
His goal was to transfer the properties of revitalized water - with all its positive effects on people, animals and plants - to all water, for the benefit of everyone who drinks or uses it in everyday life. Through years of research and experimentation, Johann Grander concluded that water has the ability to transfer information. This information transfer from water to water represents a physical uniqueness and was made usable by Johann Grander for the first time in this form.
As we want to offer our guests nothing but the best, we decided to equip all
the water pipes in our Hotel Bergkristall with Grander water.
